Passenger extricated after one-vehicle rollover

MARQUETTE — Two people were taken to the hospital after a rollover accident in Marquette on Sunday evening.

Marquette City Police say the incident happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. on US-41 near Tonti Road. A 22-year-old Marquette man was driving south when he lost control of his vehicle. It then overturned, landing on its roof near the shoulder of the road. The driver was able to escape the vehicle, but the passenger — an 18-year-old Marquette woman — had to be extricated.

Police say the driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions. Both he and the passenger were transported to UP Health System – Marquette by ambulance for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The Marquette City Fire Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, UP Health System EMS, and the Michigan State Police assisted at the scene.
