Parade gets U.P. residents excited for Hockeyville Game
MARQUETTE — Well it’s no secret that residents of the U.P. know their hockey, so it only makes sense that they know how to welcome the NHL into town.
A parade was held tonight that floated across the city of Marquette in celebration of the Kraft Hockeyville game that will be held in town tomorrow night. Hockey fans from all different teams came together to celebrate their love for the sport.
Local teams of all ages participated in the event so express their excitement to have the Hockeyville competition in town.
“It think that Marquette got the recognition it deserves,” said Marquette Girls Hockey Player, Hannah Swaajanen. “I think it’s cool watching an NHL game on the ice I grew up playing on,” said Marquette Girls Hockey Player, Briana Holman.
“There are three of us here who started out as old time hockey players. Started out when we were young when there wasn’t very many teams. Being here today is really great, you can see all the kids here, it’s really something to see all these little kids here,” said Former Sentinal Hockey player, Bucky O’Neill.
The parade marched down third street and was accompanied by the City of Marquette Fire Department. Stay with ABC 10 as we cover more events leading up to the game.
The puck drops between the Buffalo Sabres and the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow evening at 7 P.M. at the Lakeview Arena.
