Packers lose Collins for rest of 2011 season

The Green Bay Packers have announced that safety Nick Collins has been placed on Injured Reserve after sustaining a season ending neck injury.

In the 4th quarter of the Packers game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Collins attempted to tackle Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart, when his helmet met Stewart’s leg, causing the injury.

Collins was taken off of the field on a stretcher, where he spent Sunday night in a Charlotte hospital. He has since returned to Green Bay, where the extent of his injury is unknown at this time.
