MARQUETTE — With summer winding down, there are still plenty of opportunities for music lovers to get their fill.

By popular demand, Music on 3rd Street will be extended through September. After one of its most successful years, the extension was added by Marquette’s Downtown Development Authority to provide NMU students with an opportunity to experience one of Marquette’s most popular streets while it’s filled with talented local musicians.

“Marquette has a really great and really vibrant music scene and we have a wide variety of music that is played on music on 3rd,” said Marquette DDA Promotion and Events Coordinator Tara Laase-McKinney, “it’s been a really great experience for the community and the business owners on 3rd Street.”

“It’s really wonderful that the musicians volunteer their time,” said Togo’s General Manager Bee Embley–Stoll, “we always make sure they get one of their favorite Togo’s before they’re done performing. We really love to be involved in the community events. Music on 3rd is really popular and well attended. We are so grateful to the DDA for continuing to create amazing events for the Marquette community.”

Music on 3rd will be on September 17th from 6 – 8 PM. Just down the road this weekend the Marquette Area Blues Society will put on the 12th annual Blues Fest at Marquette’s Lower Harbor. Blues Fest is one of the most highly praised music festivals in the Midwest for bringing world class blues to the lakeshore.

“Every year is unique,” said Marquette Area Blues Society President Mark Hamari, “the big thing is we’re bringing in artists that people have never seen and they trust us to do a good job of booking the lineups and it seems to be a great festival.”

The event runs from Friday through Sunday, with free admission on Friday. By volunteering to help out with the festival, you can have your admission charge for Saturday and Sunday refunded.
