Otter Lake property owners’ discussion today
Property owners around Otter Lake will have an opportunity today to discuss their assessments for maintaining the Otter Lake Dam.
Owners of 91 parcels will begin paying to keep up the dam, after the state dropped its financial support. Many property owners have been unhappy about the situation, saying that the dam was built nearly 40 years ago without local approval, that it’s had a negative effect on the lake, and that Houghton County and Portage Township are asking them to shoulder too much of the financial burden.
Officials expect a crowd… and say they’ll be available to discuss the assessments with property owners in the Houghton County Circuit Court room from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
The County Board will hold a special meeting at noon on October 29 to approve the tax roll.
