MARQUETTE — The AARP Foundation Tax–Aide service started more than 40 years ago with one person.
The organization has grown since then.According to a recent survey, 95% of the people that come to them for help with their taxes were very satisfied with their experience. Many people just can’t afford to have someone do their taxes.
“We’re looking for folks who are looking to be preparers,” said Richard Brich, a local coordinator for AARP Foundation Tax–Aide. “Folks are saying, ‘I don’t really want to learn how to do taxes; I don’t know anything about taxes.’ We have a program that’s provided by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that all we’re basically doing is entering names, addresses and numbers. It does all the calculations so there’s no math involved whatsoever.”
Brich added that it takes about forty hours to become a certified tax preparer. If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, click HERE.
