Ontonagon man admits to accepting money for unfinished construction job
An Ontonagon man accused of accepting money for a Gladstone construction job he never finished has admitted to the crime.
Bruce Michael Sever, 46, allegedly forged and cashed checks from the victim’s account. Sever appeared in Delta County District Court Monday and pled guilty to two charges: false pretenses $1,000-$20,000 and forgery, counterfeiting, or alteration of a financial transaction device. He is also charged as a two-time habitual offender on those charges.
In exchange for his guilty plea, two counts of forgery and one count of larceny from a building will be dropped.
Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team and troopers from the Gladstone Post of the Michigan State Police arrested Sever at Gwinn residence in June following a two-day man hunt.
He is now scheduled for sentencing October 1, but court officials say it may happen sooner.
