Update: One shot in Escanaba

UPDATE: 26 year-old Andrew Robert Maynard has been arraigned in 94th District Court today in connection to the shooting incident that occurred Sunday night in Escanaba.

Maynard is charged with; careless discharge causing injury or death from a firearm.

The charge is a High Court Misdemeanor and carries a maximum penalty of 2 years in prison and a $2,000 fine.

Maynard is currently still in custody and is being held on a $2,500 bond


 

A Sunday night shooting incident injured one man and led to the arrest of another.

The incident is under investigation by Escanaba Public Safety. Police say it happened at an apartment complex on the city’s north side at about 10:30p.m.

Central Dispatch received a 911 call saying a man had just been shot. When officers arrived, they found a 20 year old Escanaba man with a gunshot wound to the face. He was lying on the floor of he apartment. Rampart EMS personnel initially transported the victim to OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba and later to Marquette General Hospital for further treatment.

Officers detained a 26 year old Escanaba man suspected of being the one responsible for the shooting. The suspect was taken to Public Safety, interviewed, and ultimately arrested on a weapons offense.

Public Safety was assisted with the investigation by the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office, Michigan State Police Marquette Laboratory, The Michigan State Police, Delta County Sheriff Department and Rampart Ambulance.
