UPDATE: One person injured in two vehicle crash

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post say that the drivers involved in the Wednesday night accident in Marquette Township were 28-year-old Shannon Stieg of Marquette and 21-year-old Heidi Kievit of Negaunee.

Stieg, driving a 2006 Ford Focus, attempted to turn right onto westbound US-41. Her vehicle lost traction, and as she accelerated, her vehicle pulled into the path of the westbound 1999 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Kievit. Stieg was transported to U.P. Health System Marquette for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.


One person was injured in a car crash this evening in Marquette Township. A black SUV and a car collided, leaving an occupant of the car trapped this evening, just around 8.pm. The Marquette County Rescue Squad was called to the scene to assist.

The accident happened at the intersection of U.S.41 and Brickyard Road. The SUV was immediately towed to allow for one lane of traffic flow. The roads are still snow covered and slippery. No word on how the accident happened.

The injured were taken to U.P. Health System Marquette with what are believed to be non–threatening injuries. Assisting Michigan State Police were the Marquette Township Fire Department, the Marquette County Sheriff’s department, and U.P. Health System Marquette EMS.
