CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP — One man is dead after a two vehicle crash in Chocolay Township Sunday.

Michigan State Police Troopers from the Negaunee Post were called to US-41 South and Hillcrest Trail in Chocolay Township just before 10:00 p.m. Troopers say that 25-year-old Duncan Ryan-Ross of Skandia was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry south on 41 when he traveled off the right side of the roadway, over-corrected back onto the road and crossed the center line. 24-year-old Megan Niemi of Marquette was traveling north bound in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The two vehicles collided head on.

Ryan-Ross was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be extricated. He was transported by EMS to UP Health System Marquette and was pronounced dead at 11:26 p.m. Niemi was also transported to U.P. Health System Marquette for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police say alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the crash. Troopers were assisted on the scene by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, Marquette City Police Department, Chocolay Township Fire and First Responders and UP Health System EMS.
