ESCANABA — A phone scam is circulating in the Escanaba area again.

Escanaba Public Safety has been receiving reports of consumers being contacted by a telephone caller claiming to be from a local financial institution.

The caller says that the consumer has had recent fraudulent activity on their account and asks them to confirm account details.
Police say it’s clear that the caller is attempting to gain personal financial information from the parties they call.
They are reminding people not to give out personal, credit card, or online account details over the phone unless you made the call to a trusted source.

You should never send or wire money, or give out credit card or account details to anyone you do not personally know and trust.
