Norway Family Leads U.S. in Energy Savings
The Michigan Public Service Commission honors a U.P. family that has just won a national energy contest.
The Ostermann family from Norway entered a contest to see which American family can cut its energy use by the greatest amount.
The Ostermanns shaved off 42 percent of their energy use, and it was enough to win.
Joe and Tabitha Ostermann say they did things that were very simple which didn’t take much time or much money — things like installing low-flow shower heads and unplugging appliances when they’re not in use instead of only turning them off.
An energy efficiency kit gave them all the supplies they needed for the work.
The National Association of Regulatory Commissioners ran the contest.
For winning, the Ostermanns get all their utility bills paid for 3 months.
