Northern MI Physical Therapy

Northern Michigan Physical Therapy is at the intersection of US-41 and M-28 in Harvey.

The treatment philosophy of its owner also involves an intersection; his slogan is ‘where injury and recovery meet’.

“It’s not just exercise, it’s not just manual therapy and it’s not just modalities,” said David Columb, DPT, OCS, MT(ASCP). “We do all of that, so we do focus on a biomechanic approach, including the exercise of trying to strengthen and stabilize joints, get things optimal with neutral biomechanics. We’ll do manual techniques, soft tissue, joint mobilizations, all of those things encompassed into it, and then on top of that, as warranted, we’ll all do the modalities that you can think of, iontophoresis, phonophoresis, ultrasounds.”

Besides being a doctor of physical therapy, Columb is a board-certified orthopedic specialist.

He’s a native of the U.P. and he’s pleased to be practicing in the region.

“Originally from Rapid River, and then I did graduate from Northern as well, so my family and I love the area,” Columb said. “We just live down the street a little bit. I’ve met some fantastic people since I opened here, and it’s been really good.”

He believes strongly in continuity of care, seeing each patient himself on each visit to not only make care more efficient, but to make patients more comfortable.

“I think if you’re having some sort of dysfunction out there, physical therapy’s probably a very good option for you. You can talk to your doctor about that, and we can help get you back to where you need to be and take away your pain,” he said.
