North Star Moving Along in Expansion Plan

North Star Academy in Marquette Township is hoping to add elementary grades if there are enough students interested.

The charter middle and high school already hosts grades 6 through 12.

But the school is looking to build an elementary school next door.

Because it’s public, the school is free of charge.

State grants and loans pay for it.

While getting interest in the first step, Superintendent Karen Anderson says they’re moving in many different directions at once.

To move forward, the school would have to get approval from NMU to change its charter and it would have to research funding options.

Anyone interested in the proposed elementary school can come to the Peter White Library at 7 to give their thoughts on the idea.
