North Central girls get ready to host state softball tourney

NEGUANEE — If you’re sick of the Detroit Tigers continuing to break your heart, then this week LaCombe Field in Negaunee is the place to be for the Little League State Softball Tournament for 10 to 11 year old girls. And the North Central U.P. girls are ready to take to the diamond.

Last week, NCUP locked down their district championship, sweeping the series against Baraga. Now after all the traveling, they get to host the tourney and that’s a relief to the team.

“It’s huge. We’ve been traveling. We’ve been downstate for those tournaments and it’s taxing so to have it here right in our backyard…it’s everything so we’re very excited for it,” Coach Patrick Thomson said.

The opening ceremony parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at LaCombe Field. Then the fun starts Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. The late game will be NCUP taking on Escanaba. Then more games on Saturday as well as the skills competition that will start at 12:20pm. The semi–finals and championship game will take place on Sunday afternoon.
