ISHPEMING — No one was hurt after a small fire broke out in Ishpeming on Sunday night.

Officials from the Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department say they were called to the reported structure fire on the 700 block of East Empire Street around 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, fire crews found moderate smoke coming from an attached two-car garage.
Prior to the arrival of fire crews, Ishpeming Police officers had used a portable fire extinguisher to put out a small fire in the garage.

Light smoke was found in three apartments within the structure as well. Firefighters ventilated those apartments before allowing residents to go back inside. The garage sustained minimal damage, and no injuries were reported.

Officials say the cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time. Two fire trucks and a crew of 20 firefighters were assisted by the Ishpeming Police Department and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.
