UPDATE: Man taken to burn center after tire fire

UPDATE — 8:15 a.m. December 7th, 2015 (EST)

More information has been released regarding the fire at Fine Line Tire in Hancock Sunday evening.

The Hancock City Police Department say they responded to the call of a possible structure fire at that location shortly after 6:00 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found that a semi trailer parked next to the building was on fire. That trailer was used to store old tires.

While the Hancock Fire Department was putting out the fire, they found a man standing near the trailer yelling for help. The man said he needed medical assistance and was taken to UP Health System – Portage by Mercy Ambulance. He was later airlifted to a burn center in Milwaukee.

The incident remains under investigation, and police are asking anyone with information to contact them at (906) 482-3102.

Hancock Police were assisted by the Houghton City Police Department, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, the Hancock Fire Department, and Mercy Ambulance.


HANCOCK — A business in Hancock escaped damage after a tire fire Sunday evening.

The Hancock Fire Department was called out to Fine Line Tire during the 6:00 p.m. hour. Officials say the fire was confined to a trailer behind the business. The building itself was not damaged. There are no known injuries to firefighters or citizens at this time. The fire was considered under control by 7:30 p.m.
