NMU’s Seckel earns weekly WCHA award

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University senior Reed Seckel has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week following his performance during the Wildcats series sweep at No. 8 Bowling Green State Feb. 20-21.

Seckel recorded three points (2-1—3) in NMU’s 4-3 win on Saturday. He assisted on the first goal of the night for the Wildcats then scored the equalizer and the game winner as NMU scored three unanswered goals in the third period to complete the sweep.

Seckel’s Saturday effort marked season highs in both points and goals. Seckel ranks sixth on the squad this season with 14 points (7-7–14) and is second on the team with 65 shots on goal.

The Wildcats return home to host Lake Superior State in a WCHA series Friday and Saturday at the Berry Events Center. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m.
