NMU’s Dahlstrom honored by the WCHA

GREEN BAY, WI. – NMU goaltender Mathias Dahlstrom was one of the Wildcats top players a season ago. Just two games into the new campaign, the ‘Cats Swedish import showed no signs of a sophomore slump against the Badgers.

Dahlstrom was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. He was a brick wall for NMU in their two wins against Wisconsin. He stopped 42 of the 43 shots he faced, for a save percentage of .977.

“Knowing that we have him back there I think gives you the opportunity as a team to play with a different confidence. For example, we had that breakdown late in the second, giving them a breakaway. For Mathias to come up with that save reboots us and gives us new energy. He did an excellent job and we’re really happy to have him. I wouldn’t trade him for anybody,” said Kyle.

“I just feel a lot more comfortable playing right now,” said Dahlstrom. “I hope that I can keep it up. I will with these guys playing in front of me if they’re going to keep doing a good job.”

With Dahlstrom’s help, the Wildcats killed all 12 power plays they faced in both games against the Badgers.
