NMU X-C team wins Lucian Rosa Invite

SOMERS, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team earned their first win of the year in the 20 team field at the Lucian Rosa Invite. The Wildcats had a team score of 58 with fellow GLIAC schools Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State right behind NMU with 71 and 103, respectively.

The top five runners for the Wildcats all finished in the top 18 and were led by freshman Kameron Burmeister who placed 5th overall with a time of 17:56.6.

The next three runners for Northern Michigan finished three seconds apart in the time range of 18:14 to 18:17. Junior Megan Edic led the grouping with Senior Larissa Halonen right behind her and Freshman Vivian Hett rounding out the bunch.

Senior Olivia Howard rounded out the scoring for Northern Michigan with a 17th place finish at the 18:28.2 mark.

Senior Chelsea Farquhar crossed the line in 37th place with a time of 19:00.3, while Freshman Caroline Brisbois was right behind her with a time of 19:03.7 good for 41st place.

“The team ran very well today,” commented Head Coach Jenny Ryan after the meet. “We went out smart and ran very strong in the middle and last part of the race. Our five scoring runners were packed close together within 35 seconds of each other. We are excited and focused to carry this momentum into the Conference and Regional Championships.”

The Wildcats will next compete at the U.P. Championships Friday, Oct. 24 with the race starting at 4 p.m.
