NMU to wrap up football season
The Northern Michigan University football team will conclude the 2013 season on Saturday in Big Rapids against Ferris State.
The Wildcats are 3-6 through nine games this season. NMU would like to finish off the season on a high note with a victory, but it won’t be easy.
Ferris State quarterback James Vander Laan has filled up the stat sheets all season long. The sophomore has been named a candidate for the Harlon Hill trophy, which goes to the best player in Division II football.
Containing Vander Laan will be key for the ‘Cats come Saturday.
“They run their quarterback more than anybody else in the nation,” said Wildcats head coach Chris Ostrowsky. “You talk about a quarterback that is out there running the football. He’s the focal point of what they do.”
“They’re very fast, very aggressive and very skilled,” said Wildcats senior wide receiver Christian Jessie. “They probably have the most aggressive defensive backs we have faced all season. We are going to take advantage of them being aggressive and find some big plays out there in the passing game.”
Kickoff between the Wildcats and Bulldogs is set for 12pm on Saturday.
