NMU women’s hoops to play at Butler

MARQUETTE – The NMU women’s basketball team still has a couple of weeks left until the start of the regular season. The Wildcats will play one exhibition game, this Sunday at Butler, against a former Wildcat.

L’Anse native Kurt Godlevske was named the head coach at Butler in May. Godlevske graduated from Northern in 1994. He played basketball for NMU women’s head coach Troy Mattson, who as an assistant coach on the men’s team at the time.

“Kurt Godlevske is one of my best friends,” said Mattson. “We were hunting buddies for a long time while he was one of our players. He’s been gone for sometime, after he left the U.P., but we talk sometimes two, three four times a day.”

“It’s going to be awesome for him– it’s his first game at Butler University. I know he’s nervous and excited all in one. We’re looking forward to the opportunity of going down there and play in probably one of the most legendary field houses in the United States– Hinkle Fieldhouse, home of Hoosiers (The Movie). We’re excited about all of this,” added Mattson.

Tip–off from Hinkle Fieldhouse is set for 2 p.m.
