UPDATE 10:20pm: The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team ia the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Regional of the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Wildcats will play No. 5 Quincy on Friday, Mar. 14 at 9:30 p.m. EST. The NCAA Midwest Regional games will take place at Drury University in Springfield, MO.

Another team from the GLIAC, Wayne State, is in the Midwest Regional. The Warriors are the No. 5 seed and will face No 3. Indianapolis on Friday, Mar. 14 with game time TBD.

Michigan Tech did not receive an at-large bid to the tournament. The Huskies season ends with a 19-9 record.

DETROIT – The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team may have missed out of winning the GLIAC North Division regular season title by one game, but that didn’t deter the Wildcats from still capturing a championship.

NMU won the GLIAC Tournament on Sunday, defeating Malone 53-49 in the final. NMU junior guard Lauren Gruber was the catalyst for the Wildcats, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Alyssa Colla added 11 points for the Wildcats, who earned an automatic invitation into the NCAA Division II Tournament.

NMU entered the GLIAC Tournament as the #2 seed. They defeated #7 Northwood, 82-64 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday in Marquette. The Wildcats traveled to Wayne State University for the GLIAC semifinals, where they edged #3 Michigan Tech, 59-54 on Saturday.

The Wildcats faced #5 Malone, who defeated #4 Ashland and #1 Wayne State to get to the championship game. Deborah Simmers led the Pioneers with 13 points in the tournament final.

NMU (22-7) has won 10 straight games and 11 out of their last 12. The NCAA Division II Tournament Selection show is on Sunday night at 10 p.m.
