NMU finishes in fourth at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University track and field team had a fourth place finish at the Hillsdale Invitational on Saturday (April 13). The Wildcats had two winners on the day and tallied 69.5 team points, trailing Grand Valley State (184.5), Hillsdale (157) and Lewis (124).

Senior Mariah Beaman won the javelin with a toss of 118 feet, two inches. Junior Mallory Celaya won the 3000 steeplechase in 11:52.14.

Redshirt freshman Abby Roche was second to Celaya in the 3k steeplechase. Brittni Wirtz was second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100.

Junior Cheyenne Stewart placed third in the triple jump and tied for fifth in the high jump.

Senior Brooke Granquist had a busy day with a seventh place finish in the long jump, eighth in the shot put and ninth in the 800 run and 100 hurdles.

Sophomore Olivia Howard (3rd), junior Chelsea Farquhar (7th) and senior Brittany Loomis (10th) were in the top 10 in the 5k. Junior Sydney Schultz was fifth in the 200 and ninth in the 400.

Freshman Megan Strait (4th), freshman Victoria Freeman (10th) and sophomore Mary Dillow (11th) threw the discus. Strait was also 10th in the hammer.

The ‘Cats head back downstate next weekend (April 18-20) for the Al Owens Classic at Grand Valley State.
