Multiple Marquette locations close doors as winter storms rolls through

Upper Peninsula residents are shoveling themselves out of yet another snow storm as harsh winter weather continues to roll through the area.

Northern Michigan University closed down for the day at 1:00 p.m. EST. Marquette City Hall, the Municipal Service Center, and Lakeview Arena followed suit at 2:00 p.m. EST.

The National Weather Service says the Central U.P. received between 3 and 8 inches of snow by mid–morning, while parts of the Western U.P. received up to a foot. The Escanaba area has seen rain and sleet turn to snow throughout the day.

Snow removal crews have been hard at work making slippery and messy roads safe, again. Snowfall will likely continue steadily until after midnight, when the current system will start to make its way out. Marquette County can expect a couple more inches throughout the evening, but areas along Lake Superior to both the west and east will probably get an additional 3 to 5 inches.
