NMU Swim Team finishes in 2nd at C.C. Invite

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team completed competition at the three-day Calvin Invite on Saturday (Dec. 1). The ‘Cats finished in second place with 774 points, just behind Grand Valley State University.

“We did much better in finals tonight, finishing second only behind Grand Valley by 25,” said head coach Heidi Voigt. “Last year, we placed third with only 460 points.

In Saturday’s events, the ‘Cats placed in the top ten in three relay events. The 200-yard medley relay team finished with a time of 1:47.72 for third place. Sophomore Emily Bourguignon, senior Olga Budiansky, freshman Crystal Bennet and senior Lauren Cockles made up the relay team.

The 400-yard freestyle of Bennet, Bourguignon, Cockles and sophomore Deborah Lawrence placed second with a time of 3:00.05. Also in the same relay, sophomores Emily Brennan, Aspen McHugh, Jordan Iverson and Tara Dowling placed tenth.

Northern will take the month of December off and will resume competition on January 6th in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
