NMU suspends hockey coach & admin official

ISHPEMING — ABC 10 Sports confirmed tonight that Northern Michigan University head hockey coach Walt Kyle and Associate Director-Compliance & Senior Woman Administrator, Bridget Berube Carter, have been put on administrative leave.

Forrest Karr, the athletic director at NMU, told ABC 10 sports director Jerry Taylor that he would only comment on the fact that Kyle and Berube Carter have been suspended. “It’s the university’s standard practice not to comment on personnel issues,” Karr told JT.

The NMU hockey team will be without Coach Kyle this weekend in Penn State, when the Wildcats take on the Nittany Lions Friday and Saturday.

Kyle has been the head hockey coach at NMU since 2002. Kyle has more than 200 wins as head coach of the Wildcats. He played at NMU and was the captain of the team when the Wildcats made it all the way to the NCAA Frozen Four in 1980 and 1981.

Carter is also a graduate of NMU. She has been with the athletic department full-time since 2004.
