MARQUETTE — Running is a great form of exercise but this Saturday you can lace up and run for charity.

The student nursing association at NMU is holding a 5k “Run for Shelter” Proceeds from the event will benefit the Harbor House women’s shelter. This is the second year the nurses will display their caring nature for a women’s shelter.

President of the NMU nursing association, Jorie Lintz says “It was great to see all the ages, we had runners, walkers, young, old and we have people who are super competitive going for the prizes and then we have people who are out to just enjoy the day. Seeing everyone come together for that one day and then giving the money at the end, knowing you are able to give back, knowing it is going for a great cause is one of the best feelings.

The race takes off from the University Center on campus. If you’re not a runner, you can help out by volunteering. The nursing association organizes two fundraisers a year and they say the joy of doing both events is phenomenal.

“Its just the joy, we had a woman we gave to for charity ball and she cried. Saying this is going to help out so much. As long as we are helping out with something and we can bring joy to them and it is just a great feeling,” continued Lintz
