NMU students make Valentine’s Day cards for veterans

MARQUETTE — Some students picked up scissors on their MLK Day of Service but joined those with cardboard, glue and markers to brighten the day of veterans.

One of the MLK service projects had NMU students producing Valentine’s Day cards for the Jacobetti Home for Veterans. Their colorful paper creations will also go to nursing homes in the Marquette area.

“I have no idea how many (cards) we’re planning on producing, total,” Superior Edge student assistant Rachel Headings said. “I think that, at least when I was over there making them, we were cranking them out really fast, and there’s a lot of creativity going in there. I was really impressed with how ‘crafty’ everybody was, and we have really great paper.”

This year, the celebration of Martin Luther King Day comes several days after Dr. King’s actual birth date, which is January 15th. If he were still with us, he would have turned 86 years old last Thursday.
