NMU skiers earn All-American status

RIPTON, Vt. – Junior Rosie Frankowski, junior Erik Soderman and sophomore Kyle Bratrud, of the Northern Michigan University Nordic ski team, all earned All-America status on Saturday (March 9) afternoon at the final day of the NCAA Championship from the Rikert Nordic Center.

The Wildcats finished 11th as a team with 278 points on the weekend and had four  All-Americans for the first time since 2007. Northern trailed Colorado, Dartmouth, Utah and Alaska Anchorage in the Nordic column for fifth place and was the highest ranked team without scoring in the Alpine events.

Soderman had the best NMU finish of the weekend in fourth place to become a three-time All-American and two-time All-American this season. He crossed the line in 50:16.0 in the 20-kilometer freestyle.

Frankowski placed seventh to become an All-American for the first time. She finished the 15K women’s race in 39:36.9.

Also a first time All-American, Bratrud finished 10th in 50:22.0 to complete his second season with the Wildcats.

Also in the women’s 15K, freshman Mary Kate Cirelli and junior Jordyn Ross finished in the top 20. Cirelli crossed the line in 39:58.1 for a 14th place finish and Ross (40:34.5) was 17th.

Junior George Cartwright (52:21.4) wrapped up the skiers on the men’s side with a 28th place finish.
