NMU-OTS wrestlers to compete in Colorado

MARQUETTE — Current and past stars from Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site’s wrestling program will compete this weekend in the 2015 Jack Pinto Cup. The event features some of the best wrestlers from Team USA facing off against the best wrestlers from around the world.

The Jack Pinto Cup will be held in Greeley, Colo. on Friday and Colorado Springs, Colo. on Sunday. Coach Rob Hermann praised his athlete’s successes, saying, “It’s great to see current and past NMU-OTS wrestlers become the best in the country and to have the chance to compete against the best in the world.”

Current NMU-OTS athletes Kendrick Sanders and Alejandro Sancho will compete in the event. Sanders, the 2014 U.S. Open champion, will compete against 2011 Asian Championships bronze medalist Ashkat Zhanbirov (Kazakhstan) in the 71 kilogram/156.5 pound weight class. Sancho will face-off against Aibeg Vensekhanov (Kazakhstan) in the 66 kg/145.5 lbs. class.

NMU-OTS alumni also competing: Justin Lester (2007 graduate; 2012 Olympian), Ben Provisor (2012 Olympian), Robby Smith, Spenser Mango (2010 graduate; 2008 and 2012 Olympian), Andrew Bisek (2010 graduate), Bo Beckham (2011 graduate), Jake Fisher (2008 graduate), Cheney Haight (2009 graduate) and Toby Erickson (2014 graduate).
