NMU Hockey team to face Mavs
The Northern Michigan University hockey team will play seven of its final twelve games at the Berry Events Center. Two of those game are this weekend against Minnesota State.
The Wildcats and Mavericks met earlier this season, back in December at Mankato. Minnesota State swept the weekend series, winning the games 3-2 and 3-0.
After that series against the Wildcats, the Mavericks have been one of the top teams in the Western Collegiate Hockey Conference. Minnesota State currently sits in second place in the WCHA standings.
On Wednesday, Wildcats head coach Walt Kyle talked about what his squad learned about the Mavericks after losing two tough games to them a few weeks ago.
“The first thing that we learned is that they’re a very good hockey team,” said Kyle. “They’re probably one of the more talented teams that we play. They have good speed up front and they’re a really aggressive team.”
“They’re well coached over there at Mankato,” said Wildcats junior forward Reed Seckel. “They have some good top-end players. I think we are a little bit different of a team since the last time we played them. It’s going to be a fun weekend and I’m ready for it.”
Puck drop from the Berry Events Center is set for 7:07 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night.
