NMU WILDCATS

MARQUETTE, MICH. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team announces its 2013-14 schedule for the 39th season of Wildcat hockey. NMU returns to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association where it played 13 seasons from 1984-97. Thirty-six games are scheduled for 2013-14, including a pair of exhibition games.

The US National Development Team and Laurentian University (Sudbury, Ont.) are the two exhibition games on Oct. 5-6 from the Berry Events Center.

For the third year in a row, NMU begins the regular season with Wisconsin (Oct. 11-12). Nebraska-Omaha (Oct. 18-19) visits Marquette for the second non-conference series of the month. October rounds out with the first WCHA series of the season as the ‘Cats host U.P.-rival Michigan Tech on Oct. 25 and then travel to Houghton the following night (Oct. 26).

In November, NMU travels to Alaska (Nov. 1-2) and non-conference Western Michigan (Nov. 9-10). After a week off, Alabama-Huntsville (Nov. 22-23) and Ferris State (Nov. 29-30) visit Marquette.

The Wildcats will spend December on the road, traveling to Minnesota State (Dec. 6-7) and non-conference North Dakota (Dec. 13-14).

The New Year opens at Bemidji State (Jan. 3-4) for a pair of conference games. The Wildcats host Alaska Fairbanks (Jan. 17-18) and travel to Alaska Anchorage (Jan. 24-25) in January. The month closes out at home against Minnesota State (Jan. 31-Feb. 1).

NMU travels to Ferris State (Feb. 7-8), hosts Lakes Superior State (Feb. 14-15) and then wraps up the home and away series with MTU. The ‘Cats play at Tech on Friday (Feb. 21) with the Huskies coming to Marquette on Saturday (Feb. 22).

The final regular season home series is against Bowling Green (Feb. 28-March 1) and the season ends at Alabama-Huntsville (March 7-8).

The top eight teams in the final regular season standings play in a first-round, best-of-three playoff series at the home site of the top four finishers on March 14-15. The four first-round winners advance to the WCHA Playoff Championship on March 21-22 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich. The two semifinal games are on Friday with the
Broadmoor Trophy title game on Saturday.
