NMU Hockey players sign with Minor League Teams

Now that their season is officially over, the Northern Michigan Hockey Team had 2 former players move into the professional ranks of hockey today. Senior forwards Andrew Cherniwchan and Tyler Gron both signed Amateur Trout deals with different Minor League teams.

Gron, the All CCHA forward, joined the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. Bridgeport is the Minor League Affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders.

Cherniwchan signed on with the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League. Cherniwchan finished his career at NMU with 35 goals and 48 assists. The Stingrays are the Minor League Affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals. A source told ABC 10 Sports today that Cherniwchan is expected to be in the Stingrays lineup on Friday night.
