MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team hosts the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 23-24). The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. both nights from the Berry Events Center. The Casa Calabria is hosting a 4th period reception following Saturday’s game.

There is a Thanksgiving Holiday Special on Wildcat hockey tickets for the series. Buy two adult hockey tickets and get two tickets half off. Tickets can be purchased online at www.nmu.edu/tickets or at any NMU ticket outlet.

On Black Friday from Noon to 4 p.m., tickets will be sold for $10 for the Tuesday, Dec. 4 game against Michigan Tech and the Friday-Saturday, Jan. 11-12 games against Miami. This offer is only good at the Berry Events Center ticket windows from Noon to 4 p.m. Phone or online orders are not applicable.

NMU is 4-6-2 overall and 1-5-2 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association after a pair of losses at Ohio State last weekend. The Wildcats are last in the CCHA standings with five conference points. The four wins are over Wisconsin on Oct. 12-13, at Nebraska on Oct. 20 and on Nov. 3 over Michigan.

Sophomore forward Ryan Daugherty and freshman forward Cohen Adair lead the team with five goals. Senior forward Matt Thurber leads the team in points with a goal and 10 assists. Junior Stephan Vigier has two goals and seven assists while sophomore Reed Seckel has four goals and three assists.

Alaska is 6-4-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the CCHA for fourth place. The Nanooks are coming of a series split vs. Western Michigan. The other CCHA series have been a tie and win over Ohio State and splits with Lake Superior State and Ferris State. Four players, Andy Taranto, Colton Beck, Tyler Morley and Cody Kunyk, lead the team with four goals and four assists.

The two teams tied on Friday night with Alaska winning the shootout and NMU winning Saturday’s meeting in both of the last two meetings. Jan. 6 at the Berry Events Center, UAF scored two third period goals to tie the game. The Nanooks won the shootout 1-0. Saturday, Andrew Cherniwchan and Thurber each had a hat trick to lead NMU to a 7-3 win. The ‘Cats scored four goals in the third period.

Thurber has three goals in two games against the Nanooks. Senior defenseman Kyle Follmer, sophomore defenseman Mitch Jones and Seckel have also scored against UAF.

NMU leads the all-time series 27-6-11 and are 15-1-6 in Marquette against the Nanooks. The ‘Cats are unbeaten in the last 14 meetings.

Saturday night’s game will be replayed on NMU TV13’s high definition channel at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
