SAULT STE. MARIE — A graduate student of a U.P. University has been given an important national role.

President Obama recently appointed Northern Michigan University alumnus and current graduate student Aaron Payment to the National Advisory Council on Indian Education. As a member of that council, Payment will be advising the Secretary of Education on funding and other Native American educational issues.

Payment also serves as tribal chairperson of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
