NMU grad in second place in ‘Jeopardy!’ tournament

A former NMU graduate will have some work to do Friday in the second round of the Jeopardy! Teachers Tournament.

Mary Beth Hammerstom is behind fellow competitor John Pearson by $4,200 after the first day of the tournament.

During the game, Hammerstrom had all three Daily Doubles–answering two of them correctly–to take the lead heading into Final Jeopardy with $16,000.

But, she was stumped on the Final Jeopardy question about U.S. Presidents.

Hammerstrom lost $5,000 to bring her total to $11,000.  Pearson ended the round with $15,200.  Pearson was the only contestant to answer the question correctly.

Hammerstrom will try again Friday for a chance to win $100,000.  Scores from Thursday’s and Friday’s shows will be added together to determine the winner.

$50,000 will be awarded for second place and $25,000 for third.
