Wildcats golf team completes GLIAC Tourney

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The Northern Michigan University men’s golf team carded a combined score of 304 to finish the third round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golf Championship Sunday at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course.

The Wildcats shot a team score of 895 to finish +31 over the three rounds of the tournament for an 11th place finish out of 15 teams.

“We didn’t finish where we wanted,” said NMU head coach Kyle Wittenbach. “But, the guys showed a great deal of respect for each other and their competitors from start to finish. That is very encouraging for me as a coach.”

Senior Ayrton Mantha was the top finisher for the Wildcats carding a third-round 74 (+2) and finishing the tournament with a three-round combined score of 218 (+2) to finish in a tie for 16th place.

Sophomore Emil Lundgren was second for NMU and finished in a tie for 25th place after shooting a 73 (+1) on the third day and carded a 220 (+4) for the tournament.

Senior Ben Johnson was the third place finisher for NMU turning in a 79 on Sunday and finishing with a three day score of 225 (+9) to finish in a tie for 39th place.

Freshman Austin Elsner and sophomore Dustin Dishaw rounded out the quintet for the Wildcats finishing in 66th and 67th places, respectively. Elsner carded a 78 on day three and turned in a tournament score of 236 while Dishaw shot an 82 on day three for a combined score of 237.

The Wildcats will wrap up their fall competition schedule with a trip to the Kohler Classic Oct. 20-21.
