NMU extends President’s contract

MARQUETTE — After what board members described as a fantastic first year, NMU President Fritz Erickson’s contract has been extended.

Initially, Erickson was only under contract for the preceding and upcoming school year, but another two years have been added to the contract. At the Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees meeting for the month of July, praise for President Erickson filled the room.

“I appreciate the confidence that the board has in me,” said NMU President Fritz Erickson, “my wife and I love it here in Marquette and it’s nice to have that kind of affirmation.

Erickson will receive a two percent base salary increase along with a bonus for the success from this past school year. He looks to push that success even further.

“We want to continue pushing forward on issues like enrollment,” added Erickson, “but also issues like about how we bring greater diversity to the campus, how we continue to support economic development not only here in Marquette but across the Upper Peninsula. All of these things are very important to us.”

The NMU President added that he has spent a considerable amount of time learning and understanding the culture of the campus and local community and is excited for what the future holds.
