NMU Chili Challenge raises money for Beacon House

MARQUETTE — Some like it hot, and others got it fruity, spicy and well it wouldn’t be a U.P. chili challenge if at least one sampling wasn’t served up with beer.

The annual Hospitality Memorial Chili Challenge took place today at the Jacobetti Center in Marquette. Fourteen different types of chili were served up. The money raised goes to support the Beacon House Fresh Food Program. The Chili Challenge has been around for more than then years and each time the event is a huge success for everyone and every tummy involved.

“We are doing this for the Beacon House, their Fresh Foods Program. We are really excited, we love what they do and we like partnering with them and giving more and more people the opportunity to be the proud owners of the best chili,” said Kelsey Halverson, President, Culinary Students of NMU.

Tickets were $5 for NMU Students and $7 for community members. Bragging rights were also a top prize as there was an amateur and professional category. Organizers say, get your recipes ready as next years chili challenge will be here before you know it.
