NMU Business Competition

Northern Michigan University students have lots of ideas for new startup companies.

Several of them are competing for funding to help them get their ideas off the ground.

NMU is hosting its 3rd annual New Business Venture Competition today.

Students pitch their ideas to judges from Marquette-area business who award cash prizes.

The ideas range from a juice cafe that plans to partner with local growers to obtain its produce to an environmentally-friendly taxi company with vehicles that run on vegetable oil.

First prize is $4,000, with $9,000 handed out in all.

NMU’s College of Business hosts the competition each year.

The winners are receiving their prize money right now, and we should have more about that for you later tonight at 10 and 11.
