MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University announced its competition schedule for the upcoming 2014 cross country season Thursday.

Head coach Jenny Ryan enters her eighth year at the helm of the Wildcats program and 15th as a part of the NMU athletic department.

“I’m really excited about this year’s schedule. The schedule is set up perfect with some great competition and time in-between for good training and preparation,” said Ryan. “All of our meets will be very competitive against a lot of strong teams. Early in the season we are going to the Spartan Invite, which we have never been to. It is a fast course and the largest cross country meet in Michigan with most of the GLIAC teams attending. We will also be competing at the Roy Griak Invite, which is the largest cross country meet in the country with many of the top teams from across the country. These two meets especially will be great preparation for our GLIAC Championship and Midwest Regional meets which will again be very competitive. Our home meet as always will also be very exciting on a great spectator course at the NMU Golf Course.”

The Wildcats begin their season at Michigan Tech on August 29 with a 3 p.m. start before continuing on the road at the Spartan Invitational at 12 p.m. Sept. 12.

NMU then travels to the Roy Griak Invite on Sept 27 and the Lucian Rose Invite Oct. 11 before returning home to host the U.P. Championships on Oct. 24 at the NMU Golf Course.

The Wildcats then travel to Tiffin, Ohio for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference Championships on Nov. 8 before competing at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 22.
