“Night of a Thousand Stars” benefits students

Every year, the Northern Michigan University First Nighters’ Club puts on a fundraiser for NMU theater students.

This year, the group’s fundraiser production is called “Night of a Thousand Stars”.  They held a dress rehearsal Thursday night to prepare for their one-time showing on Friday.

The production is a variety show that has comedy, music, Shakespeare and opera.  All performers are members of the community, and there are even a few NMU students taking part.  There are around twenty people that will be showing off their artistic talents.

NMU First Nighters’ Club provides scholarship money for theater students to take trips and study acting.  The club also gives money to schools, and encourages people to join theater programs.

“Night of a Thousand Stars” is a unique production, because there is only one performance.  The event is appropriate for all ages, so it is a family friendly event that everyone would enjoy.

That performance is on Friday night at 7:30 in the Forest Roberts Theater on NMU’s campus.  Tickets are $10 for students, and $20 for the general public.
