Niagara Fire Chief Going to Jail
A fire chief just across the state line from Iron Mountain is going to jail for 5 days.
Niagara Fire Chief Frederick Harvath pleaded not guilty last month to resisting or obstructing an officer, which is a misdemeanor in Wisconsin.
But he changed his plea to no contest yesterday.
A suspected drunk driver hit a utility pole on US-141 in Niagara on Christmas Eve.
Chief Harvath was one of the emergency responders at the scene.
Police say he told them he didn’t know where the driver was.
But the driver was in Harvath’s vehicle, and police say Harvath knew that.
He has a choice of serving his 5 days at either the Marinette County Jail or the Dickinson County Correctional Center in Iron Mountain.
