New sign location being determined

ISHPEMING — After the success of the first Ishpeming gateway sign, City Manager Mark Slown has found a potential new location for a second one.

The first sign located at the corner of Cooper Lake Road and Lakeshore Drive, just off of U-S 41, had received positive feedback from the public. The original goal was to have two gateway signs, one on the east and the other on the west side of the city, both along U-S 41.The new location has been proposed and Slown hopes to have a public hearing on the signs to hear Ishpeming citizen’s input.

“We’ve been thinking about it for a while and are proposing that we close off Walnut Street which is right at the end of the city limits coming from the east bound U-S 41.” Said by City Manager, Mark Slown, “so it’s a good location, there is plenty of access for the neighborhood behind it through other streets.”

The sign has a budget of around 35,000 dollars from the Downtown Development Authority. Slown thinks that it will be beneficial to have two signs and that it will represent the city in a very favorable way.
