HOUGHTON — The city of Houghton will be welcoming a new store this weekend that’s all about Michigan. ABC 10 CW 5’s Rick Allen explains.

Downtown Houghton will soon be home to Biggby’s Coffee and Quality Inn & Suites. Nationally–recognized names, but that doesn’t mean people still don’t get excited when a new family–owned store opens up.

Michigan Made specializes in products made in the Great Lakes State, with a noticeable emphasis on wine and beer.

Smith said, “There’s so many really awesome wine and beer makers. Michigan’s a great beer state. As far as the wine, we have 117 wine makers in Michigan and it’s fantastic. It goes really well with our gift baskets and the theme of what we do.”
A Grand Opening is planned for Saturday with special guests from Bells and two U.P. wine makers.

But you don’t need to be in the market for an adult beverage to stop by, Michigan Made also features gourmet food…glassware and local artwork.

Smith said, “It’s filling up really nicely with the art, and if I would have had my way, it would only had been an art store—but, it doesn’t pay all the bills, being an art store, so.”
