New Lowe’s Store & Habitat Team Up

A local nonprofit group is teaming up with the area’s newest home improvement store to help area families own their own homes.

The brand-new Lowe’s store on US-41 in Marquette Township opened its doors to customers a week ago today.

But that was what they call a soft opening, with no formal activities.

Lowe’s used the occasion of Black Friday to have their grand opening today, and they were helping out a charity in the process.

Anyone who bought a Lowe’s gift card at the store today had their purchase matched, dollar-for-dollar, and donated to Habitat for Humanity of Marquette County.

Every penny of the proceeds will be used to help the Habitat families selected for 2009 to build their own homes.

Most of that involves buying the construction supplies, and when we were there this afternoon, plenty of customers were only too happy to help.
