Another telephone scam is targeting people in the U.P., and police in the city of Marquette are issuing warnings.
Suspects in this scam have been calling people in Marquette, and other locations, claiming to be a family member or friend who is in an emergency situation in a foreign country.
The situation is anything from needing bond money or money for medical assistance.
Marquette Police Det. Sgt. Mike Kohler says the best thing you can do if you get one of these calls is to call your family members to verify what you’ve been told.
Authorities suggest not sending any money until either you or law enforcement can confirm the story.
Use caution when sending money by Western Union or similar means.
