New art exhibit focuses on Calumet artists

Three artists from the Keweenaw are the focus of a new art exhibit at the DeVos Art Museum in Marquette.

The U.P. Focus exhibit is designed to showcase the talents of artists who are from, living in, or heavily influenced by the Upper Peninsula. This time, three artists from the extensive art community in Calumet are featured in the exhibit.

“We have three artists who all work in a little bit of like a collage manner, but in very different ways,” DeVos Art Museum Director and Curator Melissa Matuscak said. “The idea of the show really has become to show all the different ways that artists in the Upper Peninsula are working. We have artists who are very creative and very experimental, and very conceptual in their work, and also have an incredible amount of training and craft that goes into their work as well.”

Pieces by Cynthia Coté, Greg Green, and Jack Oyler range in both style and media. Wood, paint, and found objects all grace the walls of the exhibit.

The DeVos Art Museum is free and open to the public.  The U.P. Focus exhibit will be on display through April 6. A closing reception featuring all three artists will take place on April 4 at 6 p.m.
