Neighboring Tenants Put Out Apartment Fire

2 tenants of a Manistique apartment complex keep a fire in their building from getting out of control.

City Public Safety says it happened at 110 Main Street at about 4:30 yesterday afternoon.

The fire started in the kitchen of a 2nd-floor unit.

The woman living in that apartment wasn’t home at the time, but 2 tenants who live in a neighboring unit heard the smoke detector.

They forced the door open and put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher.

That apartment has light flame damage in the kitchen with light smoke damage elsewhere.

Other upstairs units also took light smoke damage.

The cause is still under investigation, but authorities say it started in or around the sink.

They also say if the 2 neighbors hadn’t been there and hadn’t done what they did, the entire building would have gone up in smoke.
